Message from President

The global energy demand has been increasing due to the imbalance of supply-demand dynamics driven by numerous factors such as epidemic outbreaks, political issues between countries, fast-growing economies, and increasing population. Despite increasing the contribution of renewable energy, hydrocarbon sources still supply more than 80 % of the primary energy consumption in the world. The number of new giant oil and gas reserves is insufficient to meet growing energy demand. The technological advancements in hydrocarbon exploration and production could be a solution to overcome energy crisis. Society of Petroleum Engineers brings together scientists, engineers, and specialists from different disciplines to create a fruitful platform providing the latest achievements and findings to the energy industry.

SPE Turkey Section, a part of SPE International, aims to organize conferences, lectures, and scientific activities to keep section members with the latest innovative technologies making revolution in the oil and gas industry. The section maintains a strong relationship between members of different ages by organizing social activities. Members of the five student chapters are considered the future of SPE Turkey. Therefore, the section supports the student chapters with a scholarship program, paper contest and encourages them for their activities. Despite a small number of women in the petroleum engineers' community, the SPE Turkey section aims to keep gender equality on the board of directors.

As the SPE Turkey Section board, we are open to new ideas, suggestions, and collaborations to make our society more powerful. The section is not restricted only to the oil and gas industry, and we are rigorous to collaborate with other organizations working on earth sciences. As volunteers, the primary source of our motivation is members' support by participating in our activities and events. Therefore, you are kindly encouraged to join us to make society more fruitful and efficient for the energy industry.

Hakkı Aydın
